Ambika Soni to be relieved of J&K, may take over as Punjab PCC chief | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 8: At a time when the state unit of Congress is aggressively pursuing the role of a strong opposition in the state, Ambika Soni the veteran party leader's presence in capacity of the J&K incharge is just a matter of few more days. Soni is being relieved of this assignment for an equally arduous task in Punjab. She is likely to take over as Chief of Punjab PCC in next few days. Senior Party leader and general secretary Hari Prasad or Mohan Prakash, who is no new to J&K may again be given assignment as incharge of the state. Sources within the party said Congress high command has decided to shift Ambika Soni to Punjab where she will be expected to put many things related to party affairs on right track. Sources said though much against her desire, Soni is all set be made Punjab PCC chief, a role which the former chief Minister and stalwart of the state Captain Amrinder Singh has for long sought to happen and something which he tried rather pleaded before the high command. Soni's new role and presence is likely to curb the growing tendency of factionalism and groupism in Punjab which has eaten away the strength of the party in the state, sources said. Sources said Ambika Soni was much comfortable in handling the J&K state which she has been looking after for the last over two years. She knows the nerve , strength and weaknesses of party in J&K and has complete command over the hierarchy, sources said . Besides this, since she has been in touch with J&K state for over a decade now, her earlier assignment dating back to 2002 as in charge of the state, before she was re appointed for the same responsibility ahead of Assembly elections in J&K, Soni has thorough understanding about J&K's political canvass on a broader picture and all political sensitivities associated with this sensitive state, which is why she was interested in carrying on with the task here, sources further said. Moreover, her compatibility and understanding is much better with the incumbent PCC chief GA Mir in comparison to equations with his predecessor Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, sources added. Sources also said in the given situation. Congress is at present at the national level, Ambika Soni wanted to serve the party as general secretary but the high command wants to utilize her experience in faction ridden Punjab. |
