Encroachers on 'encroachment spree', authorities in 'deep slumber'

Udhampur, Sept 8: In a glaring example of defunct system and concerned authorities in slumber when a elite businessman Neeraj Gupta constructed Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structure on government land to construct a shopping complex at Adrash Colony within the heart of city while the concerned authorities are in deep slumber till date.
In a bid to encroach the government land, trader in question has engaged workers on war footing who are working day-night shifts under a well panned strategy that too alleged hand in glove with concerned Municipal authorities.
Surprisingly, violator has crossed all the limits of infringe Ribbon Act and successfully constructed RCC structure at Adarsh Colony Road with authorities adopting a Nelson's Eye approach towards against the violator reasons better known to them.
Though Roads and Building (R&B) Department already had served notice to violator and also categorically submitted copy of filing objections and ask the MC-Udhampur to demolish illegally constructed RCC pillars over the edge of road yet the Municipal authorities have failed to take any action against the defaulter.
An officer within MC-Udhampur on anonymity told that some of the officers at the helms of affairs have guided the encroacher who got emboldened and served a notice to MC-U on the grounds that he is constructing at his own land and Mc-U officials are harassing him..
He also accused R&B officials to have played a game by adopting a soft approach towards violator just to safe their skin issued formal letter to MCU instead of going to take action at their own and to lodge FIR with Police while the construction still is on. "If recalled here some years ago one Ashok Gupta S/o Pritam Chand Gupta tried to construct similar RCC structure in nearby place but was immediately demolished by the then Municipal Corporation Udhampur under the Ribbon Act which virtually is ignored in this recent case of Neeraj Gupta further raising finger of suspicion over working of concerned department, "said Krishan Kumar a local resident , ADC Udhampur Angrej Singh Rana when contacted briefly said we are looking after the case and a listing of defaulters is on and authorities will get all illegal demolished.
