Early Times Report

Rajouri, Sept 8: Ghambhir village residents today listed grievances in a protest against district administration and officials of Border Road Task Force (BRTF) alleging that during the construction of a bridge, BRTF have damaged an irrigation canal which was not restored till today.
People alleged that more than 140 farmers are dependent on this irrigation canal and in the absence of water their corps have dried up and they will face financial as well as other difficulties if the water was not restored in the canal at the earliest.
The protesters warned to block Jammu-Poonch highway if the authorities failed to restore water in the canal within next few days.
After several demonstrations by the inhabitants of Ghambhir Brahman and other border villages Deputy Commissioner Rajouri summoned the BRTF officials and directed them to immediately construct a bridge on Sukh Tao river at Bhamhir Brahmana as the people as well as personnel of Security Forces are facing difficulties in crossing the river whenever there were rains.
On May 25 PWD(R&B) officials handed over the road leading to bridge site at Ghambir Brahamna and Maj PS Ojha, Officer Commanding ,58 RCC under the supervision of Commander 31 BRTF immediately deployed the resources for the construction of 180 feet long Double-Double-Reinforced (DDR) Normal Bailey Bridge.
During the construction of two concrete abutments (one on either side) and crate walls to support the upcoming structure irrigation canal was damaged.
On August 20 the bridge was made operational and opened for the people and vehicles but the BRTF officials forgot to repair the canal that was supplying water to more than 140 farmers.
This irritated the people /farmers and they held protest demonstration and warned the authorities to repair the damaged canal immediately.
"In the absence of water our paddy crop was badly affected and if the water was not restored in the canal soon it will dry resulting in huge financial loss to farmers" said Suraj , Netar and others.
"As the people have brought up the matter in the notice of district administration , the matter has been taken up with Agriculture officials as well as with the BRTF officers and it was hoped that soon the water will be restored in this irrigation canal" said MM Ali, Additional DC.
