| SDH Kalakote faces shortage of staff | | | Bijay Charak

Jammu, Sept 8: Health services at newly established Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kalakote, Rajouri, have been crippled due to acute dearth of doctors and paramedical staff.
In last few months the government made promotion and transfer of specialists and assistant surgeons but most of the posts at SDH Kalakote fell vacant and are yet to filled up.
An SDH insider told Early Times that out of five sanctioned posts of specialists, no one is available at the moment, while only two assistant surgeons are available out of the eight posts.
The posts of paramedical staff are also vacant. Out of the total 11 sanctioned posts of senior and junior nurses, five posts are vacant, affecting the indoor services as well.
Sources said the schemes run by the Centre and the state government for poor sections of society have also been hit adversely due to the shortage of doctors.
The maternity services have also got affected in absence of a gynaecologist.
On the other hand, important equipment like ultrasound machine is gathering dust in the SDH because the hospital has no specialist to take care of it.
The hospital staff has to refer the seriously ill patients to district hospital Rajouri or Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for treatment.
As per sources, the number of patients at the OPD is declining by the day. Earlier, on an average around 300 patients visited the SHD daily.
When contacted Block Medical Officer Kalakote Dr. Shamim Ahmed said the Health Department has been apprised about the vacant posts. |
