JAMMU, Sept 8 : Climbers of Sprawling Buds School, the host to the 15th State Sport Climbing Championship, dominated the first day of the competitions with a clean sweep in the Mini boys' category and securing gold and a bronze medal in the Mini girls group. Whereas Ritesh Sharma, Randeep Parihar and Rudhra Partap Singh of Sprawling Buds School clinched the first three positions respectively in the Mini boys category, the Mini girls' gold and bronze medal bagged by Asma Gul and Sunandni respectively. The silver medal went to Aman Khalsa of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar. The results in the sub junior girls' category were on expected lines with Madhu Thakur, a tall and powerful climber of National Academy Udhampur, winning the top position, rather comfortably. Poonam Thakur of Amba Kids Home, Panthal (Reasi) and Renu Devi of National Academy, Udhampur won second and third place respectively. Meanwhile, competitions in other categories were in progress and results were expected late in the evening. A total of about 200 boys and girls from various districts of the state are participating in the two-day championship which is technically and logistically being supported by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. Earlier, the championship was declared open by former MLA, Ashwani Sharma in the presence of Sanjit Khajuria, Assistant Director Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu. Prominent among others present on the occasion included secretary Mountaineering Association of J&K Ram Khajuria, vice president Yogeshwar Kumar, joint secretary Shawetica Khajuria, treasurer Sushil Singh. |
