| Inter-college, Badminton, Basketball, Kho-Kho events begin | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 8 : Inter-college competition in the disciplines of badminton, basketball and kho-kho, organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, got underway at different venues, here today.
While the badminton event was declared open by Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau at Gymnasium Hall, the kho-kho competition started on the campus ground, here. Another event of basketball began at MA Stadium.
The competition is being conducted by the technical penal comprising individuals from State Sports Council and Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS). Among others, who witnessed opening rounds of the events were Narayani Jamwal, Dr Mohinder Sharma, Prof. Shafqat Jahangir, Sudesh Bhagat, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Jai Bharat.

BADMINTON :
MEN: Government SPMR College of Commerce beat Trikuta Degree College 3-0. The Results: Singles: Amandeep Singh beat Arjun Bhau 21-06, 21-02; Kshitij beat Abhishek Singh 21-11, 21-04. Doubles: Aunil and Amandeep beat Abhishek and Mohit 21-06, 21-07.
GDC Hiranagar beat GDC RS Pura 3-0.
The Results: Singles: Dheeraj Sharma beat Sahil Sharma 21-09, 21-07; Sourabh Jasrotia beat Sahil Tajoria 21-06, 21-07 Doubles: Dheeraj and Rohit beat Prince and Sahil 21-07, 21-04.
GDC Rajouri got walkover GDC Thanamandi and ASCOMS awarded walkover after Government College of Education failed to report. IDS Sehora also got walkover in the absence of GDC Doda while the PD Department awarded walkover Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET)
WOMEN : IDS Sehora beat GDC Paloura 2-0. The Results: Singles: Keerat Preet Kour beat Dechen Chuskit 21-06, 21-03. Doubles: Keerat Preet Kour and Aditi Sadotra beat Deepa Devi and Shilpa Bali 21 -05, 21-05.
Walkovers : GDC Udha-mpur got walkover GDC RS Pura; GDC Udhampur got walkover GDC Hiranagar;
GWC Parade got walkover from GDC Mendhar; GDC Kathua got walkover from GCET Jammu.
KHO-KHO : Meanwhile, in men's kho-kho tournament Government Degree College (GDC)
Samba outplayed GDC Udhampur 12-04 in the inaugural match played on the campus grounds, here. Anil Sharma, Anil Kumar, Ankush Sharma, Mohd Israr and Sachin officiated the competition under the supervision of Gagan Kumar.
BASKETBALL : The GDC Paloura won the opening match beating ASCOMS 14-08 in the inter-college men's basketball tournament started today at MA Stadium, here. The GDC Udhampur beat GDC Hiranagar 26-21 while GGM Science College and Government SPMR College of Commerce got walkover Trikuta Degree College and GCET Jammu respectively. The competition officiated by the technical penal including Aman Sharma, Harpreet Singh, Rajesh Bhagat, Sumit Dogra and Manoj Kumar. |
