PHC Basantgarh without docs, medicines; locals suffer | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 17: Residents of Basantgarh in Udhampur district are facing immense problems as the lone Primary Health Center (PHC) in the area is without doctors and proper medicine. Sarpanch of Basantgarh Manzoor Ahmad informed Early Times that the PHC Basantgarh has sanctioned strength of seven doctors including a Block Medical Officer, four posts of Assistant Surgeons, dental surgeon and six posts of nurses of Allopathic and an Ayurvedic doctor but at present BMO a few Ayurvedic doctors and two paramedical staff run the show, rest all posts have been vacant for the past many years." We have a labour room, laboratory facilities in this institution but there is no Gynecologist and other doctors. All the delivery cases are referred to other hospitals. Besides there are no medicines available in the hospital," locals said. Castigating the state government locals said, "Being poor people of remote area, we don't have money to visit several health care institutions", they said. "We have apprised the local MLA about the problems faced by us on many occasions but he has failed to address our genuine grievances." The health institution caters to the population of more than 12 thousands souls, who are spread across length and breadth of mighty mountains. Ahmad said that the health institution has an X- Ray Machine but in absence of technician, machine is gathering dust in corner of hospital. |
