JAMMU, Sept 17: A vigorous struggle has now started among officers to occupy the post of DIG of Traffic Police, Jammu, which fell vacant yesterday with the transfer and confirmation of Ashkoor Ahmad Wani as DIG, Jammu range. Wani was DIG of Traffic Police before his posting as DIG, Jammu range. Till the post is filled, he has been asked to hold the additional charge of DIG, Traffic Police, also. Police sources said though a tussle was on among officers to occupy the post of DIG, Traffic Police, two of them had also started taking rounds of the offices and residences of BJP ministers. One of them is a local while the other's track record is not good. The local officer's promotion as IGP was due but he also wanted to serve the traffic wing of the department as DIG. "While he knows he is going to be promoted in a few months from now and that after his elevation he would be transferred as IGP to some other wing, he is taking rounds of the offices and residences of the BJP ministers," sources said. At present, he is posted in one of the police wings since 2013. He has served this wing as SSP also. He has also held important positions in Jammu. He is to retire after two years. He is said to be close to at least three BJP ministers. He had also tried to get posted as DIG, Jammu range, but could not succeed. He had now been assured by a minister that he would this time be posted as the traffic police DIG. The other DIG has a very bad track record. He was also attached some time back as mark of punishment to him for the alleged "wrongs" committed by him. During his posting as SSP, Jammu, he remained surrounded by controversies and had ignored almost every BJP leader. He is unlikely to be posted as DIG, traffic police, because no BJP leader is in his favour. |
