Srinagar, Sept 17: J&K's former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday said the High Court order on sale and slaughter of bovines in the State was a "spark which could take shape of devastating fire anytime."
"Sometimes official and legal decisions prove bitter and make people upset in common or in individual capacity. "The High Court decision is sensitive for both Kashmir and India. I appeal my Kashmiri brethren to stay calm as emotions might prove unfavorable," Azad told reporters after meeting the protesting National Youth Corps volunteers who are on an hunger strike since September 1 at Pratap Park here.
Azad said that Kashmir has always remained an epicenter of peace and people have shown how to deal with the situation by using mind and heart to get their issues resolved.
"We must not confine our vision to Banihal. We should perceive impact (of the ban) on Jammu, Reasi, Rajouri, Doda Udhampur, Kathua, and in India. This issue is itself a spark which takes no time to turn into a devastating fire," he said.
When asked whether the opposition has any idea to present a bill in the state Assembly for revocation of the ban on beef, Azad said, "We will hold a meeting with National Conference and other likeminded bodies and leaders over the issue and then take a decision."
He said the motive of recruiting NYC volunteers by UPA government was to give salaries to these youth for one or two years and then adjust them in different government departments against vacant posts as per their qualification.
"These boys and girls are working for three years without any salary, and I heard that in last cabinet meeting it was decided that they should be adjusted in the Education Department. My demand to present coalition government is to adjust these children in government departments as per their qualification and competence," Azad said.
He said that many tehsils, sub-divisions and nayabats were created in the state during NC-Congress coalition government last year in which around 50 to 60 thousand youth could be adjusted.
"I appeal the state government to immediately adjust these youth and release their pending salaries forthwith. I really feel sad to see as most of them are on saline while many of them have been hospitalized," he said.
