35 yrs imprisonment, fine of Rs 15.80 lakhs awarded to Branch Post Master | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 17: Special Judge Anticorruption (CBI Cases J&K) Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul today decided seven cases of CBI and convicted Sukhdev Singh then Branch Post Master, Branch Post Office Dalhori, District Rajouri and awarded five years imprisonment to him in each case and total fine Rs 15, 80, 000/-. Special Judge Anticorruption (CBI Cases J&K) Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul after hearing Kapil Verma PP CBI whereas Adv Suneet Singh Jamwal appearing for the accused observed that it is established by the prosecution evidence, documentary as well as oral that the accused, being a public officer intentionally utilized the amount kept in his trust for his personal use, thus the accused has committed criminal misappropriation and the accused is accordingly found guilty and convicted of offences u/ss 409, 420, 468 & 471 RPC and 5(2) r/w 5(1) (c) & (d) of PC Act. With these observations Court awarded 5 years imprisonment in each case and fine Rs 15, 80, 000/- According to the police case accused Sukhdev Singh, while being posted as Branch Post Master, Branch Post Office Dalhori, District Rajouri w.e.f 19.05.1986 to 16.11.2007 collected and accepted the amounts from the various poor and innocent persons from the neighbouring villages for issuing Kisan Vikas Patra (KVPs) for which he was not authorized. He also collected money from the customers for depositing the same in various saving schemes of Post Office but did not account for the whole amount so received to the Government Exchequer and kept most of amount with him and issued fake KVPs/Receipt/Passbooks to the depositors. The total amount which was misappropriated by way of cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust by accused Sukhdev Singh, BPM Dalhori has come to Rs. 9,42,461. The case was investigated by Inspector Kamal Sangra who was on deputatiton to CBI from J&K Police and at present posted in vigilance organization Jammu (UDR Range ) |
