| Traffic restrictions imposed to widen Rajouri-Bafliaz road | | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Sept 17: Rajouri - Thanamandi - Bafliaz road that connects historical Mughal road at Bafliaz shall remain close for traffic every day between 7 pm to 4.15 am for one month due to an urgent widening /concreting / black topping work. This was disclosed by the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Shabir Ahmed Bhat in a meeting of the district/ GREF officers which was convened in his office chamber on September 14. Pertinently after several protests organized by the inhabitants of Thanamandi - Darhal - Kheora, the attendants of patients who visit district hospitals, students of PG college and from various schools situated on this road, district administration had directed the GREF authorities to start the widening/ concreting and blacktopping of this road with immediate effect. In the month of July, GREF first started widening and concreting work between University turn and Darhali bridge but the work was stopped about fortnight ago as the supply of the cement was stopped. The road between University turn and Darhali bridge was severely damaged due to water logging and widening work and commuters, transporters, private vehicle owners were finding it very difficult to move on this portion due to large potholes and bumpy portion at various locations.
Immediately after concreting work was stopped people again came on roads the matter was also raised by the people in several meetings held with the Deputy Commissioner who recently joined at Rajouri. Deputy Commissioner himself visited the road and found it in worst condition. In the meeting convened by the DC, GREF officers informed the civil authorities about the shortage of cement due to which work was stopped.
"After thread bare discussions, the Deputy Commissioner directed XEn, PWD to give 1000 bags of cement on loan basis to GREF authorities so that the work on this road may be started," said a district officer.
GREF officials agreed to start the work at the earliest and it was also decided to stop the vehicle movement on this road for one month between 7 pm to 4.15 am everyday so that the GREF officials may take the widening/ concreting/ black topping works without any interference. |
