Pak army violates BSF - Rangers agreement | | | Pakistan seems to enjoy the liberty of deciding everything that is related to India. Its troops decide when and where to resort to ceasefire violations. Its troops decide when to stop ceasefire violations. Islamabad decides whether to hold talks with New Delhi or not.Pakistan decides when to respond to India's invitation to dialogue. It decides when to reject India's plea for holding talks. And what is the purpose of talks between the DG Rangers and the DG BSF in New Delhi recently when neither Islamabad nor the Army in Pakistan honour the agreement reached between BSF Chief, D.K. Pathak, and the Chief of the Rangers, Maj.Gen.Umar Farooq ? This question bothers people, political leaders and the Central and State Governments.During the two-day meeting the DG Rangers and the DG BSF the two sides had agreed to honour ceasefire agreement. The two sides decided to fire warning shots in case either side spotted a movement on the border. If the Indian side observed movement of militants on the International Border in Jammu sector the BSF would fire warning shots so that the Rangers initiate measures for foiling ingress bids by militants. But the way Pakistani troops have violated ceasefire agreement in Poonch and Rajouri sectors during the last three days indicates two things. One, whatever agreement is signed by the Rangers is not applicable to the Pakistan Army. Secondly, honouring ceasefire agreement on the IB in Jammu sector does not mean any bar or restriction on the Pakistani troops for indulging in ceasefire violations on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Fresh incidents of ceasefire violation by the Pakistan army in Krishna Ghati sector were reported on Wednesday morning. The Indian troops retaliated effectively to the unprovoked firing. In the early hours of Wednesday morning the Pakistan army used 82 mm mortars and automatic weapons to target Indian positions on the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district. This is the third such violation of ceasefire by Pakistan in 48 hours in the same sector, the officer said. The Pakistan army also fired 120 mm mortar and RPGs at the Indian posts. Defence experts rightly believe that the intensity of these ceasefire violations may increase during another seven to 10 days because Pakistan wants to attract the attention of the members of the UN General Assembly which is having a session in New York next week. Islamabad has already made it known that neither Prime Minister,Nawaz Sharif, nor the Pak delegation to the UN General Assembly can afford to avoid raising the Kashmir issue but for setting the stage for touching the Kashmir issue Pakistani troops have started violating the ceasefire on the LoC.Yes,the main purpose of these repeated ceasefire violations was to carve out a passage for militants to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir for increasing the level of violence, the latest purpose ceasefire violations was to enable the Pakistani team to raise the Kashmir issue on the floor of the UN General Assembly. Under these circumstances is it feasible for Narendra Modi to hold talks on the sidelines of the UN session in New York ? Certainly not. If Pakistan was keen to motivate Modi to hold talks with Nawaz Sharif, Islamabad should have, by now, created an atmosphere which was conducive for Modi-Sharif meeting. Islamabad has gone on the offensive which may not encourage India to arrange talks between Modi and Sharif. |
