Raj Bhawan seeks monthly action taken report | Will govt proceed against the corrupt? | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 4: After Governor N N Vohra's jibe at the present dispensation over the delay in pursuing the corruption cases against the tainted state officials, startling revelations are coming to fore- indicating the worrisome swell of the registered graft cases with no action taken by the concerned departments. Earlier, the government itself acknowledged the fact that there are more that 300 cases of corruption and the misuse of the official position registered against the senior state officials. However, there is not even a single instance during which the government has prosecuted any of them. The government said that Crime Branch Jammu has registered 80 cases against alleged corrupt officers after charges of corruption. However, in Crime Branch Kashmir only 31 cases stand registered. Ironically, there are mere 42 cases out of around 300, against which the challan was produced in the anti- corruption court. Sources revealed to Early Times that the government was to take any measure so that the departments are issued a stern direction under which they could cooperate well with the anti- graft bodies. There is apparently the lack of coordination between the state vigilance department and other departments. There are scores of cases of serious nature pending with the vigilance only because the parent department of the accused seldom cooperates. The vigilance fails to initiate any action against the corrupt also because of the political domination and nepotism. There are reports that in the year 2015, merely 19 corruption cases have been registered in Jammu division while as in 2014, 35 such cases have been registered. In 2013 there were 17 cases while as in 2012, 28 such cases were registered. In 2011- there were 20 cases of corruption registered with the SVO. Sources said that in 2011 and 2012 out of the 56 total cases, challan has been produced only against 12 in the anti corruption court. In Kashmir division, 25 cases this year till April were registered while as in the year 2014, the number of these cases was 44. In 2013, there were 19 cases whileas in 2012, the cases of corruption registered with the SVO in Kashmir were 34. In 2011, vigilance registered a total number of 28 cases of corruption. Now when the Governor has taken a serious note of the indifferent approach of various state departments in dealing with the pending complaints and inquiries pertaining to corruption cases against government functionaries, it remains to be seen that what measures shall the government take to tighten noose around the tainted in J&K. Vohra recently asked the government to set up an effective mechanism to ensure that all such pending cases are dealt with on a time-bound basis, and all arrears cleared by March 31, 2016, to achieve the objective of responsive and transparent governance in Jammu and Kashmir. |
