Govt takes off steam from NC's communal agenda | Controversial Bill to repeal cow slaughter law | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 4: BJP-PDP coalition Government has deflated the communal plan of the National Conference to stoke communal tension in the State by pushing in a bill to repeal sections of the Ranbir Penal Code, which makes is punishable to slaughter cow and sell its meat. The Speaker had made it clear that no bill would be entertained till the Supreme Court gives its ruling on the petition filed by the State Government in the Apex court after two conflicting orders of the two wings of the State High Court. The Government sensing the sensitive dimensions of the case and also how the National Conference, in its desperation after having been reduced to just few pockets of the Kashmir, will try to sensationalise the issue had taken recourse to the judiciary on this issue. The Government knows that Supreme Court ruling on it will take some time and if the NC tries to rake it up again the Government can counter it with the hanging of Afzal Guru. "If NC insists on pushing the bill, we will counter it by saying that what you have done with respect to Afzal Guru as he was picked up from below the list and hanged . The NC could have used other options also and this could leave the NC red-faced and also that NC itself didn't make any effort to repeal this provision of the RPC, which it could have with absolute majority and when situation was much different,"s aid a senior PDP leader. According to the sources, the Government is sure that that this assembly session will pass off without any much more disturbance by the NC on this issue as this is sub-judice now and this will also take off the steam from the NC on this issue. "The NC has been cornered and silence and with some more developmental governance issues, it would be pushed to wall further and this will make it more difficult for it to raise this sensitive issue," said a the leader. |
