GDC organizes Awareness programme on Drug Abuse & AIDS | | | Early Times Report
Billawar, Oct 29 : Red Ribbon club of Government Degree College (GDC) organized an interactive session on Drug Abuse and AIDS for the awareness among the college students. Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, BMO Billawar was the resource person in the session. The function was presided over by Dr Nater Singh, principal of the college. To begin with, the resource person tried to know from the students as to what they mean by drugs and drug abuse. After listening to their responses, he dwelled on the use and abuse of the drugs and established the link between drug abuse and spread of AIDS. He explained that the adolescent age is age of experiments and excitement to try new and pleasurable things. This makes them vulnerable and so they easily fall in the trap of drug abuse leading to severe addiction which is one of the prime causes of problems at personal, professional and social levels. He further informed that how drug abusers use and exchange syringes which is also one of the prime cause of the AIDS. So he stressed upon the students not to try drugs for pleasure but use these for curing the ailments. Dr. Nater Singh, Principal of the college also spoke on the occasion and threw light on importance and objective of Red Ribbon club and also launched a campaign against drug abuse by unveiling a poster on 'Respect Yourself', Self Worth and dignity and Take care of Yourself'' in the wake of Red Ribbon Week being celebrated from Oct 23 to 31. |
