| Mismanaged JU Nehru Hostel irks scholars | | |

JAMMU, Oct 29: Nehru Boy Hostel of Jammu University having capacity for 120 inmates and housing scholars of the University is ill-managed and uncared of place with total collapse of basic facilities to the hostlers making it worthless for them to live there.
Sources informed Early Times that the warden of the Hostel Dr Satinder Kumar is allegedly performing his duties erratically, leading to mismanagement in the Hostel as he is allegedly banking upon some other persons within the Hostel for day to day work there, thus sub-letting his job to others.
A scholar, Pawan Kumar while talking to Early Times, disclosed that there is no regular operation of Mess and the cook has been made to work as an office boy preventing him from performing his duties as cook. Due to negligence of the warden, the scholars occupying the Hostel are not getting mess facilities regularly and have to often outsource their breakfast, lunch and dinner from the open market which is creating resentment amongst the scholars, he clamoured.
Sources informed that there are two guest rooms which have been locked since long time and are emitting foul smell from inside creating unhygienic conditions for the hostlers. The facilities of Reading Room and Computer Lab have also come to a grinding halt for last over one year with most of the rooms in a dilapidated condition and water seepage of the roofs is a ubiquitous feature during rainy season. The T V room meant for the scholars is devoid of proper furniture with only few chairs.
An insider informed pleading anonymity that the procedure for informing the next authority about vacancy position of rooms is being flouted with impunity adding that some of the vacant rooms have allegedly been occupied by some unauthorized persons who are creating nuisance and polluting the atmosphere of the Hostel. A scholar told that these problems have been brought to the notice of Hostel Provost, Prof. Jasbir Singh several times since last over two years but he too disposed off the hostlers saying that something shall be done, but no remedial measures have been taken either by the Provost or the Warden with the latter least bothered about his legitimate duties which has paved way for such a sordid state of affairs in the Nehru Boys Hostel of the University. |
