Deliberations on use of medicinal, aromatic plants held on 2nd Day | JK Science Congress at SKUAST- J | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 29 : "State of Jammu and Kashmir possess immense potential for cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and rural prosperity can be restored via propagating these plants for sustainable rainfed agriculture" informed by Dr. Ram Vishwak-arma, Director, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (formerly RRL) while delivering a brainstorming lecture at the second day of 4th JK Agricultural Science Congress which is going on at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu). Dr Vishwakarma further stressed that medicinal and aromatic plants have played a key role in human health. J&K State has great botanical diversity, however, only a relatively small number of these plants have been subjected to accepted scientific evaluation for their potential medicinal effects. In the technical session, Dr VK Taneja, former VC, GADVASU delivered a invited talk on Jammu "Challenges and Strategies for Managing Animal Health and Productivity in J&K whereas Dr. M.Y. Zargar, Dean FoA, SKUAST-K spoke on Organic farming for Sustainability and specialties like Poonch Moth, Rajouri Cowpeas, Ganthia Garlic, Turmeric and Kachalu from Reasi were the main attraction of the agriculture department. The Agriculture Information for cultivation of Mushroom, Potato, Various Cash Crops, Vegetables, Beekeeping and guidelines including pattern of assistance are being displayed by different sections of the department. |
