Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 29 : The Jammu Youth Forum (JYF) today sought pre-mature retirement of idle sitting professors at DDE in JU.
The forum demanded upon Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma to pre-mature retirement of the Senior Professors who are sitting idle in Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu (JU) for the last several years and receiving lakhs of rupees as salary.
Addressing the gathering here today, JYF University President Deepak Kumar said, "It is a shame on the part of JU Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma who have given patronage to a good number of DDE Sr.professors who are drawing hefty salaries and that too without doing any work for the last several years. They are teaching just 15 classes per year under Personal Contact Programme and pulling out huge amount every month. It exposed the claims of accountability and transparency in the University functioning."
He said that ever since Prof Ramji Dass Sharma has occupied the chair of VC, he has been functioning on the strength of negativity on the entire front particular DDE. He said that a tug of war was unleashed by the VC harassment the DDE contractual faculty to give justification over justification with calculated move to tremendously delay the process of engaging contractual faculty thereby promoting the policy of abuse attitude coupled with strong likes and dislikes.
He also said that the functioning of the DDE has been put to jeopardy by not providing them the requisite numbers of contractual faculty and the logistic support to run the undergraduate courses with the tacit intention to weaken the Director DDE. Because of Sr.professors of DDE is not taking the undergraduate students classes. As per past practice, this year also an advertisement was issued by the University and eligible candidates submitted their applications for engagement as teacher on contractual basis, but interviews for the same were not held.
