Kathua, Oct 29: One day district level awareness programme on joint liability groups and self help groups was conducted in Kathua district by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to sensitize bankers on role and formation self help group. According to press release, the main participants in the meeting from Kathua district were Aman Kalsotra, DDM, NABARD, J P Singh Talwar, LDM, Ashok Khashu, Director, SBI-RSETI, K L Sharma, Area Manager, JKGB, Dr.S P Verma, Livestock Development Officer, managers of different banks and NGO representatives. On this occassion, Aman Kalsotra explained the importance of JLG, SHG groups in empowerment of unreached segment. The role of group leaders, concept and book-keeping of SHG, activities undertaken by the SHG, duties & responsibilities of President / Secretary, internal lending within SHG and relationship with banks was explained in detail. They were further informed about the role of bankers in JLG/SHG formation, their linkage and development of enterprise. The latest guidelines on SHG-2 was shared with them, wherein CCL has to be provided to SHG groups and individual accounts of SHG members are to be opened with the banks. J P Singh, Lead District Manager, interacted with the bankers. He informed the role of bank in saving and credit linkage of SHG. He asked them to be sensitive towards the members of SHGs as they come with great expectations to banks and by credit linking them we are actually, developing rural India.
