Exemptions to foreign investors, hike taxation of Indian tax payers condemnable: Harsh | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: Strongly condemning the new fiscal policy of the Govt. of India envisaging imposition of new taxes, increase in the existing taxes and removal of tax exemptions and subsidies, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and Former Minister has called upon the Union Finance Ministry to roll back the same in view of growing public unrest in the country. He said that it was highly unfair to enhance the indirect taxes affecting the common masses that were already bearing the brunt of huge escalation in prices of essential commodities including pulses, mustard oils, onions and other edible besides articles of everyday use. He deplored that the indirect taxes imposed by the Union govt. had almost doubled during the current year with the Union govt. literally robbing the poor and middle classes of their small and marginal earnings. He said that with petrol and diesel cesses having been enhanced umpteen times, the new addition in the list of taxes which has irked the public was 'Swachh Bharat' cess. He said that the govt.'s proposal to enhance the taxation on services including Railway travel, air travel, Mobile phone service, eating out in Restaurants, Pan card etc to fund the so called 'Swachh Bharat' project was highly reprobate, condemnable and degenerate. He said that 'Swachh Bharat' as initially conceived was to be funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He however lamented that rather than persuading the corporate to fulfill their obligation, the Modi led govt. was shifting the burden to common masses and individual taxpayers and showing undue favours at the same time on the said corporate and foreign investors. |
