Three CRPF jawans, two civilians injured in grenade attack at Pampore | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Five persons including three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel got injured in a grenade attack in Pampore area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district today in the morning. Meanwhile, one person was injured when he was found fiddling with some explosive in the Banyari area of North Kashmir's Bandipora districton Thursday evening. Reports said that early in the morning at about 10 AM suspected militants lobbed a grenade towards a patrolling party of CRPF near the Jammu & Kashmir Bank's Pampore branch in the Kadlabal area. The grenade exploded with a big bang causing injuries to five persons. The injured included three CRPF personnel and two employees of Municipal Committee, Pampore. Immediately after the blast police, CRPF personnel and local population swung into action and shifted the injured persons to the hospital for treatment. The grenade exploded on the national highway that leads to Jammu from Srinagar. The condition of the injured persons is said to be stable with no serious injury being reported. The CRPF personnel injured in the blast were identified as constable P L Masrucar, Constable Mohan Kumar and Constable Rajesh Roshan. All of them belong to the 110 BN of CRPF and the battalion is based at Pampore. The injured civilians were identified as Mehraj-ud-din Sheikh, resident of Sangam and Latif Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Yarigam. Police officials said that all the injured have sustained minor splinter injuries and their situation is stated to be stable. The grenade blast triggered panic in the area and people ran for safety. Immediately after the grenade attack Police, CRPF and Army cordoned off the area and launched searches to nab the grenade throwers. The search operation was carried out for few hours but no arrests were made. The grenade attack has exposed chinks in the security apparatus in the Pampore area despite the fact that this place is frequented by people that come from different parts of South Kashmir and other ranges of Kashmir valley. Attack at this location is also significant since thousands of vehicles move to and fro Jammu on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Meanwhile, one person was injured in a mysterious explosion in Bandipora district on Thursday evening. Police said that 25 years old Shabir Ahmad Dar son of Akram Dar resident of Chingpora-Banyari found some explosive device while extracting sand from river Jhelum. The explosive exploded in his right hand resulting in injuries to him. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment. Bandipora police has registered a case in this regard. |
