Centre 'gives nod' to Mehbooba as CM | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 20: The BJP Government at the Centre has given its nod to PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's elevation to the post of the Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir with the closed door meet between PDP's top leadership and PMO held few days ago in New Delhi. Sources privy to this development told Early Times that the speculations have been put to the rest by the federal Government and the BJP has accorded its consent to elevating Mehbooba to the post of the Chief Minister. Following ailment of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the reports earlier came to fore that Mufti is all set to announce the name of his daughter Mehbooba for the post of the Chief Minister. There were rumours that the BJP high command has not been taken into account while deciding the change of guard in the State. But as per the top sources, the Centre was always in the loop during the deliberations and the discussions taking place within the ruling PDP in this regard. "Mehbooba is all set to be elevated to the post of the Chief Minister. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi was already appraised by Mufti about his decision. It is not the question whether the State BJP is taken into confidence or not. The fact is that the high command of the BJP has full knowledge about the subject," sources said, adding that it is up to the PDP now when it is going to announce the dates for the oath ceremony. Earlier, there were apprehensions within the observers after some State BJP leaders stated that they have no information about such an issue and had also nullified the reports of any change of guard in the State. A BJP leader Avinash Rai Khana had also on record rejected the reports of Mehbooba being given CM's post. According to him, there were no such developments taking place within State's ruling camp. But on the other hand, top sources are confirming about the involvement of the BJP high command in finalising Mehbooba's name as the next Chief Minister of the State. Sources close to PMO stated that there were no objection at all rose by the Central Government over the issue and have given its full consent for Mehbooba's elevation. "There were no hectic discussions which took place over the issue. It was resolved amicably and the BJP's top most leadership at Delhi expressed no reluctance if Mufti proposes the name of his daughter for the post," one of the senior leaders said while pleading anonymity. It was divulged further that the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been given an authority to choose date for the oath ceremony and the related formalities concerned with such a vital development. |
