Udhampur, Nov 26: Residents and environmental activists are left fuming over burning of garbage in the open because of the adverse effect it has on the environment especially in close vicinity of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park at the hub of city According to locals and morning walkers, Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee here frequently burn the garbage containing plastics and polythene in open thereby polluting the environment and this practice often carried out in early hours of the morning near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park. Reports of burning of garbage and other municipal solid waste also are on from several areas of the Udhampur city making people to question the role of concerned authorities including Pollution Control Board's district unit. "Resentment is brewing among morning walkers and others who come here to practice yoga and others exercises as they claim that due to this activity of municipality employees they are forced to breathe in polluted air, they alleged. While talking to Early Times, a yoga practitioner Bharat Bushan Gupta said, "They (morning walkers) have complains in this matter with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Municipal Committee Udhampur, and DC Udhampur also but they still are waiting for authorities to take some concrete initiate I this regard. K K Chalotra Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Municipality Committee Udhampur when contacted briefly said that he was not aware of the issue. However, he assured action in this regard so that people can heave a sigh of relief. |
