4-years on, Jammu's tourism projects still incomplete | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: Four years since their inception and more than a year since BJP came to power in coalition with PDP, several vital tourism projects of Jammu are far from completion. Reliable sources in Tourism Department said that in fiscal year 2012-13 Union Government had sanctioned several tourism projects under infrastructure development scheme for destination and circuits for Jammu and Kashmir. "Project including development of Sanasar Lake, Construction of Tourism Cafeteria at Nathatop, construction of Toilet Block and view point at Nathatop and Sanasar at an estimate cost of Rs. 3.23 cr were approved", sources said, adding that Union Government has released last installment Rs. 193 lakhs to State Government (Patnitop Tourism Development Authority) in the year 2013-14 but surprisingly after one year lapse same has failed to secure Rs. 64 Lakhs for completion of such projects. Another project was sanctioned in same year, development of Tourism Information Center at Mansar Jammu by Surinsar -Mansar Development Authority at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.55 cr but surprisingly, Union Government is yet to release Rs. 91 lakhs. Integrated development of tourism circuit -Darphal as base camp and Shanker Marg as gateway to the tourism destination on Pirrpanjal range sanctioned at an estimate cost of Rs. 5.98 crore but only Rs. 1.19 cr. had been released for the project. Sources further said that due to non availability of funds all the projects are still hanging in balance for two years, it seems that State Government is not interested to promote tourism in Jammu. Repeated calls to Commissioner/ Secretary to Government, Tourism and Culture Department failed as he didn't pick the phone. |
