Officials ignore CM's directions, do nothing for Jammu | Tourism Deptt promotes Kashmir and Kashmir only | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is planning to spend huge amounts to attract the tourists to Kashmir during the forthcoming winter season. The entire focus of the department is on Kashmir and nothing special is being done to promote Jammu as the tourist destination, sources told Early Times on Thursday. They said the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who holds the tourism portfolio has given clear cut instructions to the tourism officials that no stone should be left unturned to promote Jammu as favourite tourist destination. "Despite clear cut directions from the Chief Minister officials of the Tourism department are busy in ensuring that they promote Kashmir and Kashmir only. The new Director Tourism Kashmir has asked his subordinates to ensure that tourists who want to visit Jammu and Kashmir during winters are directly taken to Kashmir," alleged a source. He said, "Tourism officials are not paying any heed to the directions of the Chief Minister to promote Jammu." Pertinently, number of tourists visiting Jammu has taken a sharp dip due to Katra bound pilgrims visiting the holy town directly after the town was brought on the railway map. People in Jammu associated with tourism trade had brought the matter into the notice of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed soon after he took over the reins of the state. The Chief Minister had directed the tourism officials to project Jammu as the city of temples and try to bring it on the map of the city's famous plans for pilgrimage tourism. "We have no objection about officials promoting Kashmir but we won't tolerate Jammu getting ignored at the cost of Kashmir. Jammu can be developed as an independent tourist destination but for that officials have to put in some efforts and pay attention towards the tourist spots in and outside the Jammu city," said a Jammu based leader. He said that a few Kashmiri officers have hijacked the Tourism department due to which not much attention is paid towards the Jammu region. "These officers are responsible for misleading the chief minister also by providing him with the wrong feedback. Business fraternity in Jammu has been crying hoarse about number of tourists visiting Jammu taking a sharp dip but these officers have not paid any heed towards their pleas," the leader added. He expressed dismay over what he called the failure of the BJP leaders to work towards the Jammu cause. "People had thought that BJP would become their voice and would end the discrimination which the people of Jammu have been facing for so many years but BJP leaders have failed to live upto the expectations of the masses," he added. "When BJP was out of power it used to to make lot of noise about Jammu region being neglected but since the day they have come into power they have forgotten their promises and the tall claims they used to make," the leader said. |
