Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 20: Dozens of far flung and remote areas, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir remained closed while traffic will ply only during the day on historic Mughal road due to slippery road conditions.
However, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, will remain through for both-way traffic with some restrictions.
Official sources said that 66-km-long road from Bandipora to Gurez, a border town surrounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from three sides remained closed for any traffic movement.
Because of closure of the road due to accumulation of snow, dozens of villages, including near the LoC, remained cut off with the district headquarters Bandipora.
A number of other far-flung and remote areas also remained closed to accumulation of snow.
A traffic police official said that Sinthan-Kishtwar road also remained closed due to snow and slippery conditions.
He said due to slippery condition of the road, movement of traffic on Mughal road shall be allowed from Shopian as well as from Chandimarh side only between 1100 hours to 1600 hours. No vehicle will be allowed to ply in the morning and evening to avoid any accident. The 86-km-long Shopian in south Kashmir connects Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region. Meanwhile, the highway, connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, was through for both ways with some restrictions in view of the slippery road conditions, he said.
He said from Jammu (Nagrota), the Srinagar bound passenger vehicles will be allowed to move only between 0600 hrs to 1300 hrs while heavy vehicles will be permitted only between 0630 hrs to 1130 hrs. No Srinagar bound passenger vehicle will be permitted to cross Udhampur (Jekhani Chowk) after 1430 hrs while no heavy vehicle will be permitted after 1330 hrs.
He said from Qazigund, south Kashmir, light motor vehicles shall be permitted to move towards Jammu only between 0830 hrs to 1500 hrs while heavy vehicles shall be permitted only between 0900 hrs to 1400 hrs.
