Disgruntled Cong leaders see Soz as 'Messiah' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 20: In what can be seen as fresh dimension to the trouble waters in J&K Pradesh Congress Committee with a bunch of rebel leaders active and always with crossed swords against incumbent chief, a group of leaders in Jammu today called on ex president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and held discussions related to state of affairs in the state unit. Sources said Prof Soz was in Jammu for a day and left for Delhi later after meeting the leaders and their version of the cause of growing dissent in the party against the present PCC chief GA Mir. Saif-u-Din Soz's visit to winter capital assumes significance in many ways, mainly in the light of the dissent group in Jammu comprising senior leaders of Congress not happy with the functioning of the state unit, sources said. Pertinently, Prof Soz came to Jammu after a long spell , nearly one year said the sources and his stay for a very short duration, just one day is not just a matter of coincidence. Sources said this group of leaders reiterated before the ex PCC chief that they were not happy with the present dispensation in the party unit even as the elevation of Mir as president has happened with the approval of high command. Soz who is a veteran politician listened to what leaders had to say with their individual and collective 'grievances', said the sources. However, any possibility of this meeting fuelling the prospects of furthering dissensions in the PCC after this meeting has been ruled out by those who fall in complete line with GA Mir as the PCC chief, said the sources. This they attribute to the fact that Prof Soz despite being a seniormost leader of the party doesn't wield power or political strength anymore which can influence the high command in giving a new shape to the J&K state Congress unit. Pertinent to mention is that Mir replaced Saifuddin Soz in a major reshuffle in the party that was effected by the high command in March after Congress faced total rout at hustings. Prof Soz had taken over as PCC chief in the year 2008 amid a turbulent developments with the then PCC chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayed who had to resign unceremoniously. Now, with Mir on board as chief has not augured well for many senior leaders across the two regions of Kashmir and Jammu too where the disgruntled leaders continue to raise their heads with their resentful versions of dissatisfaction. |
