SRINAGAR, Dec 20 : A newly formed Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports (Kayaking and Canoeing) Association today elected its office bearers at a meeting held here today. Member Legislative Council (MLC), Firdous Tak was elected as president, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA, Wachi), Aijaz Ahmed Mir senior vice president and member J&K State Sports Council, Bilquis Mir as general secretary of the Association. Joint Secretary of Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA), MS Tomar was observer while Nissar Ahmed was Returning Officer. Speaking on the occasion, newly elected president, Firdous Tak said that Jammu and Kashmir has the potential of being the best available destination for all adventure activities including water sports. He said, "J&K has water bodies in abundance as such we have been naturally bestowed with all required infrastructure for the water sports". He said that the present government was committed to boost water sports in the state. "With the hardwork of our Sports Minister, Imran Raza Ansari, the Union Government has agreed to establish Water Sports Centre in Jammu and Kashmir. |
