| Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 20 : Two week long drama festival organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages concluded with the play 'Pishachyatra" a Hindustani play presented by Shivani Cultural Society and written and directed by Vikram Sharma here at Abhinav Theatre. On the concluding day, Ch.Lal Singh Minister for Health was the Chief Guest '. The play 'Pishachyatra' was based on a Hindustani dialect where a girl namely 'Kaya' is rendered widow at a very tender age and subjected to the ghastly rituals of an imaginary village where she has to undergo the litmus test of time. 'Kaya' journeys through the thirteen days of mourning ritual in the family and being a woman from low caste having married a man of upper caste is asked to undergo the rituals of the village by balding her head. She is thrown out from the village for denouncement by spoiled youth who pounce upon her for their lusting hunger. In this adverse and critical situation, how 'Kaya' manages to overcome the hardships of her ghost journey and flees away from the village to take a sojourn at a whorehouse where an intelligent teacher first becomes her client and later her mentor to help her rise above all pains.The climax of the play however goes anti climax as after being pursued by her inner conscious to take up suicide as a glorified way to end the life, she reveals a new front of truth that "until life remains one is supposed to face all odds . The artist's' who portrayed the various characters in the play were Neha Lahotra Amit Gupta, George Sabherwal , Nitika Ketan Gupta , Sonam Sharma , Naina Bhagay , Vikram Sharma. The proceedings of the progrct.mme were conducted by Dr. Suqhir Mahajan Senior Drama Instructor and overall in charge of the festival. |
