Doctors face tyranny of GMC Security | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 24: Tension prevailed in Emergency ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu after clashes broke between doctors and private security guards of the hospital, following which the doctors went on strike for two hours, leaving patients unattended. Sources in the hospital divulge that there are numerous complaints of security guards entering into verbal brawls with patients and attendants and even staff of the hospital, but hospital administration has always tried to sweep them under the carpet. They also disclosed that some of them were taking liquor while on duty, yet no action was taken. As per information, a doctor on duty, identified as Dr Paras Saini, was going to room number 4 of emergency ward to perform his duty when a security guard intercepted him discourteously knowing fully well that he was a doctor and was on duty. The altercation between the two soon took an ugly turn, following which several doctors assembled at the Emergency and went on strike raising slogans against hospital administration. Commenting on the issue, Medical Superintendent of GMC hospital, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal said as soon as information was received regarding clash between doctors and guards, he with other members of administration rushed on spot. "We found that security persons had attacked the doctor and action under rules has been initiated against the accused", "he added. Meanwhile, doctors have termed the action taken against the security guards as mere eye wash and said that an influential person was behind the security guards of the hospital and was giving them undue patronage in their misdeeds. |
