LMD wakes up, warns booksellers | Commission first books later! | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 5: Reacting to numerous complaints received from Consumer Welfare Organization and parents of school children regarding forceful sale of stationary items along with books, the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) conducted detailed survey of traders dealing with supply of books in various schools in Jammu city and asked them to refrain from such practice. According to Manoj Prabhakar Dy controller Enforcement, a caution message has been floated through electronic media for the parents to be cautious while purchasing books & uniforms for the new session and bring to the notice of department any malpractices adopted by the seller. "A good number of complaints were received telephonically regarding unethical sales and Inspector Jammu upper Ms Pooja and Inspector Akhnoor Sumit were mobilized to ascertain the facts, he added. According to complaints, overcharging on printed rates, sale of biding covers along with name of the book seller, restricting parents to buy stationary along with books, sale of additional books along with CBSE books and sales of school diary are being sold at the exorbitant rates. The team immediately issued direction on the spot to book sellers to refrain from adopting such restrictive trade practices as it is the violation under the Consumer Protection Act. The department also has appealed to parents to exercise their right cautiously and to approach the department in case they feel cheated. |
