SI leaves drug peddler without FIR, secret inquiry initiated | | | K Koushal Early times Report JAMMU, Apr 5: A Superintendent of Police (SP) has initiated a secret inquiry against a notorious Sub-Inspector who is posted as in-charge police post for letting free an accused who was handed over to him by District Special Branch (DSB) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) with a 3 kg poppy straw (bhukki) in January in lieu of huge money. However, the accused who is truck driver by profession after getting freedom escaped to Guwahati. If sources are to be believed, District Special Branch (DSB) wing of Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of January apprehended a truck driver on specific information and recovered 3 kg poppy straw from his possession. The DSB handed over the truck driver along with seized poppy straw to a Station House Officer (SHO) who further handed over his custody to one of the in-charge police post as the jurisdiction from where the truck driver was arrested pertains to that police post. "Next day, the in-charge police post let him free without any legal formality or registration of FIR", said a source pleading anonymity. When the matter reached the corridors of senior police officers, a secret inquiry was initiated against the sub-Inspector and a police officer of the rank of SP is looking after the matter. It is pertinent to mention here that the SI who is sub-Inspector of 2010 batch and managed his posting just 200 to 300 meters away from his house and prior to this he remained posted as in-charge police post in city jurisdiction. |
