'Angry' Sajjad Lone quits cabinet | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 5: Barely a day after taking oath as a minister in the PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir, People's Conference, Chairman, and separatist turned mainstream politician Sajjad Lone resigned from his post citing dissatisfaction over his portfolio of Social Welfare. On Monday, Lone was sworn-in as a minister in Mehbooba Mufti's government for the second time. Insiders however said like his first innings, Lone was again unhappy with the portfolio decided for him by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The insiders said he took a serious note of him being given "raw deal" by the BJP leadership and he decided to quit.. Lone was given the Department of Social Welfare in the newly formed J&K government. However, on Tuesday Lone was conspicuous for his absence from the Civil Secretariat in Jammu and preferred to sit back at home. Sources said Lone this afternoon wrote a resignation and sent it to the BJP leadership. The news of his resignation spread like wildfire. But two ministers including one from PDP, Imran Raza Ansari instantly rushed to his residence and held closed-door meeting with him asking him to reconsider his decision. Sources said Lone also spoke on phone with senior BJP leader and party's point man on Kashmir Ram Madhav. It is understood that Lone was being asked to reconsider his decision and wait till the "new Cabinet reshuffle, which could take a few months." Credible sources said that Sajjad has already left his official vehicles and he is going to vacate his official quarter on Wednesday. It is for the second time that Lone has been ditched by BJP. Last year in the first innings, he was given the Animal Husbandry department. That time also Lone was upset and he was subsequently asked to wait "till cabinet reshuffle when he would get the ministry of his choice." But before the expected Cabinet reshuffle which was slated for March this year, the then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed passed away. As per insiders, Lone was hopeful to get Housing or Health portfolios.
