'Birbal' has no place in Mehbooba's court | | | Early times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 5: PDP leader and recently appointed Education Minister Naeem Akhtar was shown his place on Monday merely after few minutes of the swearing in ceremony when during a group picture, he was spotted standing in the corner row that too with the junior Ministers. As per the PDP insiders it was the first symbolic move of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti of revealing to the party cadre and general people that Akhtar no longer would have any say in the Government functioning during the times to come. As the picture of Mehbooba and her new Council of Ministers was circulated by the Information Department here, PDP veteran Abdul Rehman Veeri was shown sitting next to Mehbooba while as others spotted sitting on chairs were Abdul Haq Khan, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Basharat Bukhari and in the corner was Haseeb Drabu. The picture caught several eye balls as Akhtar was found standing in a remote corner with some junior Ministers. He earlier was an important figure in Mufti's Cabinet with people terming him Mufti's trusted lieutenant. He was also the chief spokesman of the Government with Mufti according him the responsibility of speaking on various issues to press. Akhtar was generally known as Mufti's birbal who would counsel him at various occasions. But as on April 4, Mehbooba took oath as the first woman Chief Minister of the State, Akhtar's position is likely to get minimised during the times to come. As per the top sources, Akhtar has been for several times reprimanded by Mehbooba over various decisions that he made while heading State's Education Ministry. Sources divulged that Akhtar has been categorically asked that if there is a single more complaint received against him, he would be shown the door sans any delay. It was informed further that he has been asked by the Chief Minister of not to stir any hornet's nest again and keep his novel ideas to himself. |
