Jammu, Apr 5 : The Department of Management Sciences of Institute of Management Sciences (IMS) College, Patoli, Jammu organized an archeological site visit for the students of BBA, 4th Semester. The students visited the Excavations at Ambaran-Pamberwan sites which have proved that the place was a prominent abode of Buddhism during the Kushan period and Gupta period. The village is famous for earlier yields of the so called Akhnoor Buddhist terracotta heads that now find their place in a number of museums throughout the world. Along with the evidences of the existence of a sprawling Buddhist Complex, archaeologists made some other extremely important and exciting set of discoveries here when they unearthed the reliquary from the base of stupa. The students also visited Jia Pota Ghat on the right bank of Chandrabhaga, Jia Pota Ghat is one of many ghats situated on the right bank of Chenab. The coronation at the ghat would always remain etched in the collective psyche of the people of this state. The importance of the place lies in the fact that Jia Pota Ghat is probably witness to the march of civilization right from the existence of early man. It is in the vicinity of a Neolithic site. The students also visited Akhnoor Fort, Pandav Gufa and the famous white marble Gurudwara. Harappans used river front at Jia Pota to reach their flourishing settlement at Manda which is presently inside the Akhnoor fort. The excavations inside the fort revealed the Harappan and pre-Harappan civilizations which are 5000 years old. The students were accompanied by faculty members- Tania Mengi, Vineeta Sharma and Rohit Ganjoo. |
