Alliance of compulsion
R.B.Suri4/6/2016 12:37:22 AM
The political government in J&K has again been formed with Mehbooba Mufti as first woman chief minister. Governor's Rule was imposed in the state after the demise of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on January 7 last. She is the 13th Chief Minister of J&K. The stalemate ended after Mehbooba's meetings Prime Minister Narender Modi and BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi. After remaining in separation, both the coalition partners re-entered into an alliance for their convenience under various compulsions. They first stitched their alliance last year, respecting fractured mandate given by the people of the state. After the death of Mufti, the state was under Governor's Rule.
Subsequently, modalities were worked to pave the way for early formation of coalition government. Political thinkers have doubts about the smooth functioning of the government due to the basic ideological differences between the two parties. Former RAW chief A S Dulat, who has served in J&K for a pretty long time, too had recently expressed his view point on this score. According to him, the coalition government will run just for six months or so. He described the prevailing situation of the state at the moment not good at all as also the gulf has widened further between Jammu region and Kashmir region. Needless to mention that Mehbooba was more particular in her future politics of Kashmir as compared to remaining in power in the state with BJP. Under the prevailing political circumstances in the state, she has taken the risk. Pertinent to mention here that it is an unusual combination of two strange friends. Political experts and the former RAW chief have already stated that the BJP-PDP government is the government of totally opposite ideologies .
Immediately after the 40th day of the death of Mufti, she had convened the meeting of her party legislators at Srinagar and described the Mufti's government as unpopular one as the people of the valley were not in favour of the same as they were feeling allergic to go in for governance in the state in alliance with the saffron party. After her meeting with prime minister Narender Modi, Mehbooba thought it better to go for the formation of the coalition government in the state once again with BJP. She rather concentrated on the important aspect that while serving as the Chief Minister, she would be able to serve the people of the state in the right earnest avoiding the direct confrontation with the central government . Let us see which way the wind blows?
The state cannot afford to experience this sort of political uncertainty every now and then as it goes detrimental to the interests of its subjects for no fault of theirs .Writers , Analysts and Columnists express their opinions over the issues involved but it is for the people to react and act accordingly after having seen the performance of the ruling clique. Let's hope for the best for the state and its subjects as well in view of the changed political scenario and the wisdom of those at the helm of affairs at the moment .
