PhD candidates yet to get MSPs | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 24: The University of Jammu has so far failed to provide Minimum Standards Procedure (MSP) certificates to hundreds of Ph.D candidates according to University Grants Commission (UGC)guidelines of 2009 but astonishingly, varsity administration has sought the same from the candidates for the posts of Assistant Professors in its various academic departments, advertised recently. According to the advertisement issued by University of Jammu on 18th of April 2016, several posts of Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors have been advertised in various disciplines and the last date of applying for posts is May 27, 2016. In the column of eligibility criteria for post of Assistant Professor, the sub-section II reads as, "….the candidates, who are or have been awarded Ph.D degree in compliance of the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D Degree) Regulations 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility conditions of NET/SLET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in University/Colleges/Institutions. Criticizing the JU authorities, aspiring candidates said that varsity administration has so far failed to grant MSP certificates to its Ph.d candidates, due to which the recruitment process for the posts of Assistant Professors in colleges has been stalled but the same varsity has been seeking MSP certificates as per UGC regulations of 2009. "Firstly the University should come clear on MSP issue and issue MSP certificates to hundreds of Ph.D candidates, whose future is lingering on for the last many months due to the fault of varsities", they said. Controller of Examination, Sanjeev Mahajan said that so far their office has not received the documents from the office of Dean Research Studies for granting of MSP certificates. An official of Vice Chancellor Secretariat said that so far the issue of MSP has not been resolved and decision in this connection would be taken afterMonday. "On Monday a meeting of JU council will be held and there is bleak possibility that the issue will be discussed. A decision in this regard may be taken on Tuesday or in the next week", he said adding that the posts of Assistant Professors have been advertised as per the recruitment rules and until there is an official order from UGC there would be no change in the recruitment rules and eligibility criteria. Dean Research Studies (DRS) Jigar Mohammad didn't respond to repeated calls. |
