Neighbouring country wants to create cricket team from J&K | Pakistan's no ball! | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 24: Having failed to prove its point on Kashmir through militancy, trade and politics, Pakistan has now literally thrown a "no ball" on the issue. The neighboring country wants to launch a cricket team from Jammu and Kashmir. The chairman of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Najam Sethi on Saturday hinted at launching a cricket team from J&K in this year's event. "My dream is to launch 6th Kashmir team in PSL this year. Hope our five franchisee partners will support me in this initiative," Sethi wrote on Twitter. His views were seconded by Javid Afridi, the owner of a PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi who tweeted: "Simply we can open the Gates for the New Talent from Kashmir where the spirit of One Kashmir Flag raises through continents." PSL's first edition included five teams: Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. The decision to add Kashmir team comes as a surprise as the team owners had been told that for two years no other team would be included in the mega tournament. "If PSL Mgt start a vote of confidence for another 6th Team in PSL. I'll strongly recommend "Kashmir Team" soft msg to the world's sports arena," Javid Afridi tweeted. Javed Afridi, who tweets @JAfridi10, in another tweet wrote that the proposed Kashmir team should not be "restricted to Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) only." He advocated finding ways of incorporating cricket players from Jammu and Kashmir. Peshawar Zalmi is captained by flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Though as of now India is silent on the issue, observers have taken a serious note of the statements made by Pakistan. "There is nothing accidental in the controversial statements over cricket, but part of some well-planned conspiracy to keep the pot boiling on Kashmir issue," said a retired bureaucrat keenly keeping track of developments in the "cricket diplomacy". He said the fresh statements were in continuation to the previous ones made by Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi during the recent T20 world cup matches held in India. On March 25, Afridi yet again repeated his Kashmir comment during the post-match interview after his side's 21-run loss to Australia. "I want to thank the people of Kolkata (the venue of a previous World T20 match against India) for supporting us. I thank people who came and supported us from Pakistan and Kashmir. I also want to thank the BCCI for taking good care of us in India," Afridi said drawing a loud applause from the stands. That time BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur had criticised Afridi for saying a number of prople from Kashmir had come to support his team. |
