'Crorepati' woman officer buying land in name of husband, relatives | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: So that she doesn't come under the scanner of anti-graft agencies in J&K, a woman officer has been buying big chunks of land at different places here in the name of her husband and relatives. Her husband is junior to her in the state administration. She has purchased at least two plots in his name. One plot is shown to have been bought for Rs 55,000 in 2007 and the other for less than Rs 1 lakh a few years back. In the property statement filed by her with the government in the recent past, the cost of these plots has now been shown at Rs 55 lakh and Rs 50 lakh respectively, according to official sources. Sources, however, disputed her claim, saying she had hidden the actual cost of the two plots as these were worth crores now. "The woman is at present the head of a district while her husband is posted in another district. Both of them are serving in different departments," sources informed. Sources said she had good relations with some property dealers who "help her to buy land at prime locations". She had been preferring to buy property in the name of her husband because different sets of rules governed their departments. The rules as regards the purchase of property were not very strict in her husband's department, the sources added. Sources said some of the properties had also been purchased by her in the names of her close relatives.
