Smugglers make hay as Forest officials attend minister's meet | | | Early Times Report
akhnoor, Apr 28: While a minister lectured forest employees at Dumi near here to keep a check on the smuggling of green gold, smugglers made hay as all attended the meeting of their 'boss' and no one was left at the forest check posts to put their truckloads of illicit timber to checking. Official sources said while the minister asserted that his lecture would go a long way to inspire and motivate forest employees to take requisite measures to put an end to the smuggling of all sorts of forest wealth, smugglers carried truckloads of illegally felled timber from outside the 'unmanned' check posts without any obstruction from any quarter. The minister's lecture, held in a forest complex at Dumi Akhnoor, was atteneded by almost all the employees of the particular forest division as a result of which no one was left to man the forest check posts. Smugglers took benefit of it and carried illicit timber without any obstruction, sources informed. Sources said after the meeting ended and the minister left, locals brought the matter to the notice of some forest officers but they took no action and preferred to keep mum. The smugglers benefitted a lot from the minister's meeting, sources said and added that information about the meeting was passed on to them by some forest employees. |
