Secy CAPD has no knowledge about ration scams | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 28: Secretary Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department Shafiq Ahmad Raina has expressed his ignorance over the alleged ration scams that recently surfaced in Kashmir instead he says that Director CAPD Kashmir was carrying such information about the department. In the recent past, various alleged ration scams had surfaced in the Valley that were widely reported by the media. Surprisingly, the Secretary CAPD said he does have much information about the department. "You should ask the Director CAPD Kashmir about it. He has more information than me," the Secretary said when asked over the recent reports of the allocation of 45000 quintals of rice meant for the public distribution in district Budgam but people of scores of areas said they didn't receive any ration for the month of January. "Some people may be complaining but that does not mean entire population has not received the ration," he added without divulging any details whether the department would atleast order the probe into the alleged scam to unveil the facts. It has been reported that 32400 quintals of ration under normal quota and 13200 quintals extra rice as per the census 2011 was allotted to district Budgam for public distribution from FCI Godown Budgam. "But people complained that they didn't receive the ration for the month of January," a media report has said. Similarly, in 2014, around 3000 quintals of rice went missing from a granary in Chadoora area of Budgam district. During the September 2014 floods, over 10,000 quintals of rice meant for flood relief were missing. Follow which a senior official was suspended but was reinstated within a month. In Srinagar and Pulwama district, many ration scams had surfaced but no action has been taken against the culprits, sources said. "Action may have been taken in those cases also. Many senior officials are monitoring the distribution process," the Secretary CAPD added. There are also reports that three trucks of sub-standard rice has been seized in North Kashmir's Baramulla district. An inspection team of the FCI conducted the inspection of godowns of Baramulla district in January this year and found variations in weight of ration which wassent from Punjab to Jammu and Kashmir. However, CAPD officials said itwas the internal matter of the FCI and the CAPD has nothing to do with it. |
