Proposed road nowhere in sight; 90% funds withdrawn | | |  MS Nazki

POONCH, Apr 29: In a glaring example of corruption in Public Works Department (PWD) sub disvision Mendhar, nearly 90% funds have been released for the construction of 6 KM long Dangloon Grid Station-Basooni link while the road is still in shambles, sources said. The department has done all paper work in a systematic manner and Rs 70 lakh has been released in favour of the contractor of the road Hafiz Tazeem Ahmed out of Rs 80 lakh ptoject, With the help of AEE Riyaz Rathore, Sources said, adding the construction of this link road was started, long back in 2005 with earth work of this road. Then the tender for the construction of same road was flouted in Dec 2015 and Rs 80 lakh was the cost of the project under town plan out of which Rs 70 lakh was shown expenditure while as there was no work visible on the ground, sources further added. It is pertinent to mention that the statements of authorities on this vital road project differ with each other. AEE PWD Sub Division Mendhar Imtiaz Mir said that the cost of the project is Rs 80 lakh and only Rs 42 lakh has been with drawn till date and the rest construction work including black topping of the road in yet to be completed. Early Times learnt from XEn PWD Poonch that the actual cost of the project is Rs 94 Lakh while as superintending Engineer Rajouri-Poonch range said that the cost of this vital road project is over Rs One crore which is the only link to connect and benefit ten thousand and souls living along the border. District Development commissioner Poonch MH Malik while clearing the clouds told Early Times that a team of fact finding in the matter has been constituted and they will submit their report by Monday to my office, the DCC maintained. |
