Anti Encroachment drive: PDA demolishes three illegal structures at Pahalgam | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, May 17: Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) in its continuing drive of demolishing illegal structures raised in violation to the High Court orders today demolished three structures in outskirts of Pahalgam falling under its jurisdiction. A PDA official told early Times that PDA's special quad constituted to look after the High Court order violations demolished the structures that according to them have come up at Movera and Aathnadan area of the famed tourist destination Pahalgam. Meantime Chief Executive Officer, Pahalgam Development Authority, (PDA) confirming to ET said that demolished structures were raised illegally. "All the three structure were demolished as all of them raised illegally," he said. "On specific information PDA has also seized construction material being ferried to Pahalgam at different spots falling under the jurisdiction of development authority, he added. He said that PDA will continue such a drive and High Court orders will be honored. "The PDA will continue the drive against violators who have in contravention to the Court orders raised new constructions in the shape of GGI sheds in the non permissible area especially on the river bank, forest area or state land," he added. Development Authority has also taken a serious cognizance of Early Times report regarding functioning of unregistered hotels at Movera. Meanwhile Tourism Department officials at Pahalgam have been directed to keep vigil over the area and stop functioning of those hotels sealed by Pahalgam Development Authority. Pertinent to mention here, the High Court has imposed blanket ban on constructions in Pahalgam in 2010, following the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Peoples Welfare Pahalgam. Later in 2011, the Court directed the authorities to revise Master Plan (2005-2025) after observing that the earlier one was flawed and prepared with malafide intentions. Pertinently named as 'Pahalgam 2032', the Pahalgam Master Plan was finally Okayed by the late Mufti's cabinet on September 7, 2015. However, the proposal had not been yet first presented before the High Court before it could be finally approved and later implemented. The deliberate delay raises eyebrows with local activists accusing government of benefiting rich and influential. |
