Influential theatrist monopolizes theatrical activities in Jammu region | | | Arun Singh Early Times Report JAMMU, May 17: Despite number of theater groups functioning in Jammu, a particular NGO which has a couple of plays to its credit has monopolized theatre activities in the region by staging those plays repeatedly. This NGO has allegedly elbowed out all other theater groups thereby asphyxiating Jammu's theater which once reverberated with diverse activity. Sources told Early Times that this particular NGO got fame with its two odd plays which are being repeatedly staged for the last many years and the owner of NGO by exploiting the popularity gained through couple of plays has managed an important position of regional head of a Central cultural organization. "He is enjoying the position and foreign trips and using resources at his disposal to extend benefits to his NGO and his chosen sycophants, ignoring others which is severally snubbing the budding talent," they alleged. Sources in the field of theatre allege that he uses only pick and choose policy to and gives opportunities only to his blue eyed, who give in to his dominating ways. "He has developed a sense of strong liking and disliking within the artist fraternity which is proving detrimental for the growth of theatre in the State so far as his position as regional head is concerned. He got his position by manipulation and now has important role to play in the identification and nurturing of talent in the state, but his prejudices and discriminatory approach has deprived many budding artists of rightful opportunities. |
