Power hungry BJP leaders creating hurdles in solving WPRs issues | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 17: BJP led Union Government headed by Narendra Modi is very particular to address grievances of displaced persons from West Pakistan but some power hungry local BJP leaders are creating hurdle in the solving problems of these refugees once for all. Solving issues of West Pakistani Refugees is also top agenda of Central and State BJP leadership for the last six decades. Credible sources in the corridors of power said that Centre is ready to take a bold step to grant citizenship rights to these refugees but some local BJP leaders, who have tasted power, are creating hurdles. There is apprehension among these power hungry leaders that any step to address human issues of these refugees would annoy coalition partners PDP and others Kashmir centric groups. "State BJP leaders are not giving response to the repeated queries of Centre regarding these refugees", sources said and added that state BJP leaders, who is enjoying power, have reportedly assured its coalition partner that party will not sacrifice power to solve human issues of West Pakistani Refugees. Last year when Parliament Standing Committee (PAC) had forwarded some recommendations to solve problems of these refugees, NC, Hurriyat and other separatists groups had opposed residency status to West Pak refugees Mainstream parties as well as separatist groups of Jammu and Kashmir had voiced opposition to any move by the Central Government to grant permanent residency status and voting rights to West Pakistan Refugees, who have settled in various parts of the state. Credible sources said that PDP leadership has warned local BJP leadership that taking issues of refugees would rock the coalition so it is in the interest of the Government to keep this human issue in cold storage. It is all due to warning of Kashmir centric parties that state BJP leadership is creating hurdles in solving refugees problems to remain in power. The granting of citizenship rights for the refugees is a bone of contention between the coalition partners PDP and BJP. In the "Agenda for the Alliance", the coalition had promised to solve problems of refugees. |
