Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 17: The senior doctors at SKIMS have started seeking blessings of ministers and babus in the secreteriat. The government intrnds to fill the post within a month after it went vacant recently. The five year tenure of present Director SKIMS Dr. Showkat Ali Zargar comes to end on June 2 this year. As per Govt Order No. SKIMS Per/543/16-2424-33, dated 3 May 2016 Dr Zargar shall attain retirement on superannuation from Govt services on June 2, 2016, approval of Chief Minister conveyed Vide No. GAD (Admn) 166/2014 dated 27 April 2016. Accordingly an Advertisement Notice was issued by Secretary to Govt. Health & Medical Education Department, vide No: ME/NG/71/2016/SKIMS, dated April 5, 2016, inviting applications from eligible candidates for the position of Director SKIMS. The last date for submitting applications is May 16, 2016. With several senior doctors in fray over the post of the director at Kashmir's only largest hospital, there are few who, as per sources, have started lobbying with the helmsmen in a bid to assume the prized post. Highly placed sources told Early Times that within SKIMS only more than 25 senior specialists have submitted applications for the post of the director and that even a day ahead of the last date, there are only two applications received by the government from the senior doctors who aren't discharging their duties at SKIMS. "There are no less than 30 applications that have been received by the government in few days. More than 25 applications are from those who are discharging their duties at SKIMS," says a senior official here. Reports inform that the chief minister who is the chairman of the SKIMS governing boy has issued strict directions to the selection committee to thoroughly examine each and every application received by the government for the post of the director SKIMS. Sources said that the Chief Minister has also issued directions that the past record of each medico who is in fray shall be scrutinised. "We have been asked that only three medicos will be selected in the end and it will be the prerogative of the chief minister to accord the vital post to any one among the three," an official said. Meanwhile, hectic lobbying has begun with the medicos who have submitted their applications trying hard to make it to the top. "There are medicos in SKIMS who are using all their contacts at present to make it to the final list. There are reports coming to fore that doctors are trying to contact the ministers of the present regime and asking for the support," sources said. However, the ministers and other helmsmen are finding themselves in a difficult situation with chief minister already clipping their wings and authorising the search committee only to select the director for the post. "The director has to be a person with clear track record, no corruption or embezzlement case in his kitty. Such guidelines are to be followed. The search committee has been asked to find the person who could deliver on ground with honest and selfless attitude," top sources in the government said. |
