Govt to bulldoze highway encroachments | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 20: The alleged encroachments by high-profile and big-wigs along the National Highway from Kunjwani Chowk to Narwal By-Pass are all set to be bulldozed by the authorities as the Government is learnt to have given its nod for the same. According to the official sources, the National Highway Authority of India has prepared a list of illegal structures, temporary and permanent, which have been raised by encroaching upon the highway by some influential persons. These illegal structures include some showrooms, which have extended their area of operation upto the road thus creating a difficult situation, sources added. Even as these encroachments were already in the notice of National Highway Authority and other concerned agencies, no attempt was made to check the same and remove these despite repeated complaints by people in this regard. Exhibiting abuse of power, a showroom owned by an influential persons, has encroached upon by-lanes of the highway. Till date no one has dared to remove this encroachment. Even the National Highway Authority is well aware about the issue. This time around the Government has given its nod to launch the drive and if the sources are to be believed, the establishment is trying to kill two birds with single stone. While elaborating, sources said that through this anti-encroachment drive, the Government is planning to tighten noose around an influential businessman who is still calling shots in the State administration. On the other hand the government wants to send a message that no one is above the law, said a senior government official.
