BJP plays down Akther's statement, says party firm on its stand | Separate colonies for KPs divide coalition | | Saqib Junaid Early Times Report Srinagar, May 20: A day after senior PDP leader and Education Minister Naeem Akther stated that exclusive colonies for migrant Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley are not possible, PDP's coalition partner, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday feigned ignorance about Akther's statement. The state President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sat Pal Sharma while talking to Early Times said, "There is a proposal that there will be separate colonies for the migrant Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. The BJP is firm on its stand on that and would continue to push for establishing Sainik colonies." When told that Naeem Akhtar has ruled out of separate colonies, Sharma replied, "I don't know what Naeem Akhtar has said. It is a sensitive issue and we will also take a stand on what the PDP leader has said." The BJP spokesperson Arun Gupta said the BJP won't budge from its stand and would see to it that separate colonies for the migrant Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley are setup. "But the migrant Muslims, Sikhs and any other migrants belonging to any community can also live in those colonies and have nothing to do with the statements of the PDP leaders and the separatists," Gupta said. Akhtar on Thursday said all the mainstream and separatist parties were on the same page that migrant Kashmiri Pandits must return to the Valley. "All separatists including Geelani, Yasin Malik and the mainstream parties, NC, Congress, PDP and the BJP are saying the same thing that Pandits must return to the Valley. There are no two opinions and diverse views on that. For that we want to develop a consensus how to ensure return of migrant Pandits," he said. "There is a proposal to develop a composite habitation where every state subject would a right to live-in including Pandits, Muslims even the Dogras of Jammu. It will be a normal habitation like other places," he added. However, he said the state has not procured any land for such composite townships so far. "We have put out our proposal and if they (separatists and others) have any alternative, they should tell us we will consider on that. If there are any loopholes in it we will rectify them," the Education Minister said. Akhtar said the protection of the 'state subject laws and the J&K Constitution' was the concern for the mainstream as well as the separatists in the state. "You separatists talk about the things which concern us too. The NC, Congress, PDP fought the elections to protect the state subject laws and the J&K Constitution. PDP-BJP alliance has already made it clear in the Agenda of Alliance that the there will no violation of the state subject laws for which the PDP is also taking BJP on board," he added. |
