CHC Thannamandi sans facilities; Health deptt says all is well | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, May 22: Contrary to people's allegations that the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Thanamandi lack basic facilities even the shortage of staff, the health department officials have been claiming that they have provided many facilities for the benefit of the patients. Interestingly, in the official records the Health Centre at Thanamandi is working as a Public Health Centre (PHC) and according to rules/regulations only two doctors can be appointed from regular side whereas out of two posts one post of doctor ( lady doctor) is lying vacant for many years. But this health centre is getting funding under National Health Mission (NHM) and under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) four doctors ( one post is lying vacant) have been providing health care to more than 40 thousand people of the area In the absence of specialized doctor (Gynecologist) the recently constructed Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) having machinery worth more than Rs 20 lakh has been locked at this centre as most of the delivery cases are being referred to District Hospital at Rajouri. But due to personnel efforts of Dr Iqbal Malik, BMO and in-charge Medical Officer some facilities have been upgraded in this institution which include proper functioning of X-Ray unit, Ultra sound units, 24X7 day laboratory facilities. "Services of Retired , CMO under contractual basis have been provided for Ultra sound /X-Ray in this block so that the patient may not suffer" said Dr Iqbal. "Former Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad wanted to up-grade this health institution with 100 bedded facilities. Even former State Health Minister , Shabir Ahmed Khan wanted to up-grade this institution but their efforts failed to bear any fruits" said I.Khan a local resident Members of civil society have demanded up-gradation of Thanamandi Health Institution because the centre is situated on the side of historical Mughal Road and world famous shrine of Baba Ghulam Shah at village Shahdra. Besides providing health care to more than 30000 people of the area this health institution is also providing health care to pilgrims and tourists moving on Mughal Road. |
