'Inaccessible' BJP ministers eat humble pie, can't do anything for Jammu | CM's initiative to meet people in Kashmir draws applause | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 22: As the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took a significant decision three days back to make herself available for meeting general masses at least twice a month, this arrangement would remain elusive for the Jammu public as they cannot cover huge distance all the way to avail this facility. Notwithstanding its equal share in the power, BJP has neither asked for any alternative arrangement nor acted voluntarily like the Chief Minister to listen to the woes of the people who voted them to govern, thanks to an indifferent and unconcerned ministers of the party who are insulated to such initiatives. Sources within the PDP said Mehbooba Mufti's initiative to meet delegations of people and individuals twice a month at her private office in Srinagar has been received well not only by the party workers and cadres, but people in general all of whom cannot make it to Civil Secretariat . The step taken by the Chief Minister on her own has drawn appreciation from all quarters as she will herself take time off her busy schedule to meet the delegations, deputations of all hues besides individuals to listen to their problems and grievances. This will not be a superficial gesture as every case she addresses will be seen by a follow up action towards redressal in a time bound manner, sources said as Mehbooba having planned the initiative in such a manner to make it a meaningful exercise. This is not just significant or a political gesture but meaningful enough to substantiate her concern towards problems of the masses, said the party sources, adding that everyone is upbeat about the step as it would mean a lot both ways. However, as it is, the initiative shall remain confined to summer capital and obviously Jammu people cannot avail such facility on account of distance. They will either have to cover the distance between two capital cities to get their grievances redressed or wait for six months until Durbar shifts back to Jammu, said a BJP functionary, indicating annoyance of the party workers towards the BJP ministers who do not care nor muster courage to ask the Chief Minster to revive the system of winter secretariat with group of ministers visiting Jammu in a phased manner. For now, as no minister of PDP-BJP government has bothered to visit Jammu or take stock of the things in general, those having matters of urgent nature rush to Srinagar to get their problems and cases settled. It means huge inconvenience both on account of distance as also pinches their pockets to reach up to Durbar in Srinagar. Will the BJP leadership in Centre take note of this 'troublesome' exercise people from Jammu have to undergo due to unconcerned ministers …..? |
